Of all the common metals aluminum is the most common of all but difficult to mine thus keeping the cost high.  While aluminum and tin are certainly easier to build with because they are lighter and more flexible Steel is still the most used common metal for building.

Steel is by far the strongest of all the common metals and is used to reinforce skyscrapers and many other different types of buildings.
